How Does a Cotton Candy Machine Work?

A cotton candy machine has a hollow head. The cotton candy machine operator adds about 6-7 ounces of sugar into the hollow head and the head spins at a very fast speed.

Within the area of the hollow head of the cotton candy maker, there are heating elements that heat the sugar and turning it into a liquid. As the head continues to spin, it throws the liquid sugar around the machine and against screens. The speed forces the liquid sugar through the holes in the screen creating threads (also called 'floss').

The cotton candy machine operator then uses a cone to gather the threads of cottony candy around until there is a large cloud of cotton candy ready to serve or put into cotton candy bags.
